hackney vandal patrol is a brand new project from long time friends and neighbours scott fraser & richard sen. focusing on their joint love of that deep miami/ new york house sound, vol i is the first edition in a series of ltd 12inches. heading back to richard s heritage of being a highly respected graffiti artist, each one is hand tagged by richard in his own unique style and numbered with an insert by scott. the first release, bound by faith is a straight up and direct for the dance floor miami style deep house cut, complete with reverend jesse jackson speech on the vocal version. for the dj crews there is a deeper redemption dub stripped back bass hit with added percussion and a re-programmed instrumental of the original. the hackney vandal patrol were once despatched to patrol the streets around the mighty london borough of hackney.

when alexander (boddika) got in touch asking for some new fresh music i knew it was a really important step for me. nonplus is a stable reference label in the techno scene and it was a unique opportunity. i thought the open minded philosophy of the label would help me a lot and i could create more experimental works. i decided to produce the tracks in almost one take… turned on the synths and looked for the perfect range and character of sounds and spent some weeks recording it, finishing with some edits before the final mixing. the final results were more than expected. harmonic rain, the ep mains track has a really special groove, with a main melody which is transposed and slightly altering it gives me a good feeling. the ep feels to me like a complete journey itself. with peak time tracks, and more experimental and warm up music. loops but not loops. in summary, im really happy with this release and with the beginning of this musical relationship with boddika and the nonplus team.

this time y-bayani has support from the great voice of baby naa. baby naa was just hanging out at the studio in accra/ghana when the recordings of rehwe mie enyim took place. the crew was waiting desperately for a singer to back up y-bayani. after an hour of waiting the producer, knowing that she sings at church every sunday, asked baby naa to do the missing part. then something occurred that nobody was expecting and finally everybody was happy that the original singer hadn t made it. rehwe mie enyim is a unique example of how roots-reggae can sound today. maybe it will be the very last recorded real roots-reggae song in human history? on mi sumolo the band of enlightment, reason and love gives us a light and cheerful instrumental every dj must have for his late night wedding set or any other high-class party.

ernesto chahoud’s ‘taitu’ is a collection of soul-fuelled stompers straight from the dancefloors of 1970s addis ababa. a breathless journey through the unique ethio sound that bands were forging at the time, the 24-track compilation is the result of the lebanese dj and crate digger’s decadelong love affair with the ‘golden age’ of ethiopian music.

from the redwood forests of big sur and the industrial warehouses of downtown los angeles comes pfeiffer, a label dedicated to quality and a diverse musical output. pfeiffer follows in the footsteps of labels such as svek and kompakt, known for releasing a wide range of techno and house with a common thread of unique and unpredictable energy. looking to bring this type of eclectic curation into the modern era, pfeiffer draws inspiration from the raw simplicity and effortless magnetism of its namesake location on the central coast of california. february 9th marks the release of pfeiffers first musical offering. a-side big tent sets the tone with raw, minimal percussion and acid tinged melodies. b-side twist brings a healthy dose of chicago and detroit influence to a track that feels colder than house, but warmer than techno. the first of many releases to come, pfe001 marks the tip of the iceberg for pfeiffer, a label which will continue to reveal itself over time.

from the knowledge gained on our expeditions, we are able to track down the jets fired during each unique eruption and share them with the people of this majestic orb.
the first squirt led us to the yard in hackney, where ross from friends performed live for one of the first few times in his already sparkling career.
>from the performance came a track called ‘champagne’, a wave of sax washing over you accompanied by plinking guitar and of course those fuzzy hi hats that go right to your head.
this track could previously only be experienced by seeing the trio play live or by watching our documentation of the performance, until now.

releasing an album into the world is a special moment for any artist but when you re an artist who grew up in remote northern ghana with no schooling, spending a life herding cows and goats, building your own instruments and teaching yourself to sing, then there s a particular sense of occasion and celebration in finding recognition and an audience for that music. this is the case for guy one, an utterly unique artist who is writing and performing frafra music, a style that originates from a small area in the north of ghana. whilst guy one is already loved and adored locally by now - building up a fervent following in local villages in which no funeral or wedding would take place without his soaring voice and deeply rhythmic playing, before then transforming into an award-winning, tv appearing artist in ghana - his music is now to find a much wider audience through max weissenfeldt s philophon label (jimi tenor, hailu mergia, alemayehu eshete) on this berlin meets bolgatanga release.

warren harris did a sterling job on his first outing for perpetual rhythms as hanna, and he s back for round two. things are just as deep as you would hope and expect, with harris unique take on the detroit house formula present and correct on the cleverly executed -lake shore dr.- -parallel- finds him exploring his penchant for snagged, off-kilter rhythms matched with deep house delicacy, and -gold coast- takes things into lounge territory without ever sounding insipid. therein lies the magic of hanna, and beautiful experiment -khords 1- is on hand to finish the ep off as a statement of just how special and unique harris music is.

acid paulis album bld dropped earlier this year and was a superb reminder of martin gretschmanns unique place within the electronic music. breathing musicality and adventurousness into everything that he does, the album covered a number of moods and emotions, from dystopian carnivalesque vibes to moments of high intensity, through to deep melancholia and synth laden ambience. following on from the a remix package, b brings another huge selection of producers into the fray to reinterpret the originals. first up, hamburg hero stimming works over ‘amadou - flipping the original, into a techy bomb. a thick kick underpins a shuffling, off kilter rhythm and beautifully treated melodics. stimmings feel for gently pushing the dancefloor into new places shines through. ‘rené is reworked by roman flügel, the ongaku/klang/playhouse boss whose influence on the european electronic music scene has been immense. always willing to experiment, ‘rené is the perfect canvas - arpeggiated blips and beeps echo primitive electronic explorations by the likes of francis bebey, and a huge subby kick drum take this track into space. alex boman sets to work on ‘jeanne, locking into his signature groovy, tribal approach to working the dancefloor. the swedish producer adds dubby elements, an irresistible percussion track and disruptive, random sounds to the thick, heady mix. dutch wunderkind satori tackles ‘jorge - twisting the original into a psychedelic groover that finds room for backwards vocals, marimba-like melodies, fat basslines and shuffling breakbeats.

a voice in the ether. a calm, clement drone. a gentle, pulsing throb. like the ghost of a forgotten future as imagined by the distant past, certain creatures sophomore lp nasadiya sukta is a study in timelessness - crystalline, heartfelt ambient music designed to push light through shadow. nasadiya sukta is the debut release on mysteries of the deep, a record label dedicated to total sensory immersion. mysteries (as its known colloquially and affectionately) launched in 2011 after a particularly fruitful late-night mixing session, first as a cult podcast series dedicated to narcotic music of all kinds, subsequently expanding into a series of seasonal events. now, with the release of nasadiya sukta, mysteries of the deep becomes a full-fledged outlet for music to play in the dark. certain creatures is the alias of brooklyn-based artist oliver chapoy, and nasadiya sukta was crafted especially for mysteries of the deep. its genesis came when grant aaron, mysteries proprietor, tapped chapoy to perform at mysteries halloween event in 2015. his performance was the nights axis point, bridging earlier subdued sounds with late-night upbeat moods. two years later, reworked and reconfigured, this performance is reborn as nasadiya sukta. although divided into six tracks, nasadiya coheres into a single extra-terrestrial mass, its beautiful understated elegance encouraging repeat listens. simultaneously harking back to ambient classics from the 90s (you know who they are) while cementing chapoy as a visionary artist with his own unique voice, nasadiya sukta is one for the space travellers indeed.

otakhee is a unique and creative musician from south korea with his own broad musical spectrum. recognized first with his psychedelic-avantgarde jazz album smoked jazz released in 2012, he surprised the scene again in 2015 with an abstract hip-hop album, psychedelic weather. his unique soundscape with elements of minimalism and industrial music along with the veteran emcee m.e.d. created the album s own esthetics, nowhere else to be found. after the release of psychedelic weather, he expressed his interest in dance music, especially in deep house and techno.

fresh off the back of his debut ep 2nd nature , which received support from seth troxler, laurent garnier, ame, maya jane coles, archie hamilton, mano le tough & damian lazarus, dokta returns to 20/20 vision alongside the dance music and audio obsessive leonidas who s been topping the juno vinyl charts recently with his releases kay suzuki and hobbes . the uncompromising 15-minute composition merges dokta s unique electronic arrangement style with a transcending live saxophone melody and an original vocal recording of nycs paradise garage and loft regular david vickers, with a spoken word tribute to dave mancuso and his legendry loft residency, recorded before the great mans passing last year. structured with a driving kick, off set drums and rhythmic keys baby powder proves once again dokta refuses to work within formalities, offering up a release that is both truly unique and impossible to ignore. baby powder sees dokta continue to push the boundaries of electronic production, effortlessly compounding live elements that explore exciting new musical territories

dj punkadelix a.k.a. mayu kondo who based in tokyo, will starts a new project of music production called mayudepth. this ep titled -sneakpeek- featuring the voice by fashion model rie miyamoto and includes remix version by akiko kiyama who is an artist play on a global stage.the cover work shot by a female photographer masami sano and artwork by mayu kondo herself, this album artwork expresses her unique way of seeing things as a collaboration package with female artists working in various fields.the label is “shiki kyokai” which owner by dj shuffle master,who is an innovator of japanese techno sound, which continues to release from overseas top labels such as tresor and bpitch control.

prolific producer mathis mootz is very well known within the drum/bass and hardcore techno arenas as being one of the innovative pioneers to merge both genres with an unique approach. his contribution to the electronic music community is not limited to his explorations within only the drum and bass and hardcore genres, mathis also has various experimental projects, most noteworthy being his m2 ( squaremeter ) project with releases on mille pleateux, ant-zen and hands productions. the sound of m2 is defined as a combination of micro sound and industrial soundscapes. the panacea is no stranger to the world of techno as some may suspect, his command of the position chrome record label came from his close relationship with force inc. music works which was one of the earliest german record labels to fuel the underground techno/rave scenes in the early 90’s. since position chrome came under his guidance in 1997 it has become one of the most important labels in electronic music due to it’s integrity and an impressive release of quality music for it’s genre. more recently, he has been investigating the techno landscape with david frisch together known as new frames, their latest release on hands productions is essential for those interested in contemporary electronic music of the dark techno/industrial kind. “ above the absolute “ is a 12’’ of mercenary techno produced with expert skill. the opening track “ above the absolute 96 “ is pure sound wave balance with all the components for what is sure to light any dance floor on fire. “ most basic resolution “ is a dark, mood shifting, hard acid techno reminder of what it means to create music for warehouses, pure old school for the hardcore. “ overdrive ee “ continues in a more contemporary direction and demonstrates a mastery of percussive elements in tune with the kind of atmosphere that brings people together in the dark. the final track “ walter “ goes back into the future with a track aimed at the headstrong, an exceptional closing chapter that hits dead centre on the search of the perfect beat. an overall completely impressive work from an artist who has set no limitations for himself.
